The spots have gone, but your skin hasn’t quite gone back to how it was before? Acne can leave behind little dips, marks or patches of uneven texture, especially across the cheeks. It’s common, and it can happen even if your breakouts were years ago.
You might notice it more in certain lighting or when applying makeup. Whether it’s deeper scarring or flat marks left by old spots, we’ll help you understand which treatments could help improve your skin.
If your skin feels generally rough or bumpy rather than scarred from old breakouts, you may find our page on uneven skin texture helpful too.
When a spot becomes inflamed, it can affect the skin beneath the surface. As your skin repairs itself, it sometimes makes too little collagen, leaving a dip, or too much, leaving a raised scar.

There isn’t one treatment that suits every scar, and you don’t need to work that out yourself. We’ll look at your skin and explain what may help. Some deeper or raised scars need specialist care, and we’ll tell you if that’s the better route.
We’d love there to be a quick way to erase every scar, but treatment is about making them less noticeable. The aim is smoother-looking skin, with improvements usually building gradually over a course.
For pen microneedling or RF microneedling, we often recommend starting with a course of three, although some scars need a longer plan. We’ll explain the likely number of sessions and what you can reasonably expect before you commit to anything.
If you’re still getting inflamed breakouts, those usually need attention first. We’ll check your skin and ask about any acne medicines, then advise on the right time to start working on the marks or scars left behind.
